These will complement different programs at the other venues, where Christopher will be joined by his wife, noted soprano BRENDA NICOLE ATZINGER. The aficionado can attend more than one recital for an extended program. American pianist CHRISTOPHER ATZINGER has performed in Austria, Italy, France, Spain, and Canada in addition to performances throughout the United States highlighted by concerts in New York at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall; in Chicago at the Dame Myra Hess Series and PianoForte Salon Series; and in Washington, D.C. at the Phillips Collection. Christopher is medalist of the New Orleans International Piano Competition, the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, and the Nina Plant Wideman International Piano Competition. He was also winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs Artist Competition and the Premio Città di Ispica prize at the IBLA Grand Prize Competition in Ragusa-Ibla, Italy. Most recently he was Bronze medalist at the San Antonio International Piano Competition (72 entrants from 19 countries) with a special award for best performance of the commissioned piece, Ivory and Ebony by Joan Tower, and Bronze medalist at the Seattle International Piano Competition, with special recognition by the Seattle-area music teachers for best performance in the final round. He has recorded for MSR Classics and Centaur and will record works of Judith Lang Zaimont for Naxos in 2010. Mr. Atzinger earned degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Michigan, and Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. He currently lives in Minnesota, where he teaches at St. Olaf College. As a cosmopolitan port city and publishing center, this capital of the Netherlands in its golden age enjoyed a musical life that included both native productions and rich contributions from abroad. Founded in New York City, REPAST was a finalist in the Early Music America/Naxos Recording Competition in 2003. Since then the ensemble has performed at Bargemusic, the Early Music Society of the Islands in Victoria, B.C., Museum Concerts of Rhode Island, the Times Center, Midtown Concerts, the New York Early Music Celebration, the Staller Center for the Arts, the Lyceum Concert Series, and the Brooklyn Friends Meeting House. Southern California Guitar Recitals GEORGE GUTMAN's Weekly Summary Our classical guitar schedule is starting to warm up for the new year with a good smattering of well-known stars, beginning with MARTHA MASTERS who (with varied instrumental company) performing free in Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, and the always wonderful DAVID STAROBIN, who offers a Master Class (free for auditors) at USC on Thursday. On Friday the Mexican guitarist DIETER HEMMINGS YEOMAN appears in Northridge, and USC offers a recital featuring alumni of their stellar guitar program. The program focuses on the drama in opera with a selection of arias and excerpts from some of the most gloriously tragic operas ever written. The evening won't all be doom and gloom, however: comic relief will be offered with selections from 'Gianni Schicchi' and 'Falstaff', Puccini and Verdi's only comedies, respectively.
