April 16: Violinist Rolf Haas and Pianist Miki Aoki

Violinist Rolf Haas and pianist Miki Aoki perform Schumann: Phantasie in C major, Opus 131, and Gershwin (arr. Heifetz): Porgy and Bess Suite, together with piano works by Dowland, Handel, and Chopin.

Rolf Haas is ‘fearless’ (Minneapolis Star Tribune). He is blazing an eye-opening new trail as equal parts classical violinist, combining extreme virtuosity with an expansive sound palette; and hip-hop artist (emcee/producer), combining raw lyricism with lush instrumentals. This unique skill set was to develop starting from an early age, at 5 through the tutelage of his violinist Grandfather (Prof. Emeritus Harry Nordstrom, Carleton College), and at 13 through his immersion into street culture in his hometown of Minneapolis, MN.
Praised for “genuinely memorable performance”  by BBC Music Magazine, pianist Miki Aoki is widely recognized for her diverse abilities as pianist and as a collaborative artist. Ms. Aoki combines her career performing solo recitals and chamber music, with working alongside young string players. Ms. Aoki is currently appointed as senior lecturer at Graz University for Music and the Performing Arts, in Austria. Additionally Ms. Aoki frequently plays for the prestigious Kronberg Academy as staff pianist.
