Sundays Live Audition Winner: Tomomi Sato

We are pleased to announce that pianist Tomomi Sato is the winner of the 2016 Sundays Live audition and will be performing on Sunday, September 11, in a program featuring works by Bach, Schumann, and Wild. Please join us in congratulating her on this great accomplishment!

Japanese pianist Tomomi Sato enjoys her diverse career as a highly sought after soloist and collaborative pianist of various genres and styles. She is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at University of Southern California Thornton School of Music under the tutelage of Bernadene Blaha, where she is a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Keyboard Studies Department.

Born in 1994, Tomomi started her piano studies at the age of 3 in Japan and has been playing ever since. At the age of 10, she moved to the United States with her family and continued her studies with Dr. Mark Sullivan. Tomomi received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California on Faculty Wives Memorial Scholarship, where she received the USC Outstanding Graduate Keyboard Studies Departmental Award upon her graduation in 2015. As an avid chamber musician, she also received the USC Keyboard Studies Ensemble Award for three consecutive years. Her recent accomplishments include winning the state round of MTNA Senior Yamaha Piano Competition and a third prize at the Seattle International Piano Competition, where she received the special recognition for Best Performance of a Work by J. S. Bach. Her recently attended festivals include Dino Ciani Academy in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, California Institute of Music in Engers, Germany, and Seattle Piano Institute in Seattle, Washington. She will be attending the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California this upcoming summer as a Collaborative Piano Fellow.

Tomomi is currently based in Los Angeles, where she enjoys playing for musical theatre productions and church services alongside her classical music career. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring Los Angeles’ culturally diverse food scene.

Sundays Live will present a one hour program concert with Tomomi on September 11, 2016 at our regular concert time of 6 pm, available as a podcast from our broadcast partner, KUSC.org during the following week.
