Violinist Yu Eun Kim and pianist Mark Robson perform George Benjamin:Three Miniatures for Solo Violin; Ysaye: Sonata for Violin Solo, Opus 27, No. 1; and Franck: Sonata in A major for Violin and Piano.
Violinist Yu Eun Kim began her studies in Korea and graduated from the Seoul National University before coming to the United States to attend USC’s Thornton School of Music, where she received her graduate certificate studying under Midori Goto. Concertmaster of the USC Symphony, Yu Eun Kim was a semifinalist in the Buenos Aires International Violin Competition and won both the concerto and Bach competitions at USC in 2014. She is the winner of 2015 Sundays Live audition.
Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as a pianist with “one of the great techniques” and “an inquiring mind” pianist Mark Robson has created a career which expresses his diverse interests as soloist, chamber artist, composer, and conductor. He has been on the music staff of the Los Angeles Opera since January of 1991, working as an assistant conductor and coach, and has been a musical assistant at the Salzburg and Spoleto (Italy) festivals. Mark Robson earned degrees from the University of Southern California and Oberlin College – several years of study in Paris embellished his musical training. He has been employed by USC, Chapman University, and the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts as a vocal coach and teacher. Among his formidable musical projects are the performance in eight concerts of the complete piano sonatas of Beethoven and numerous performances of Messiaen’s massive cycle, Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus.
