August 16: The FluteSonic Chamber Orchestra with Flutist David Shostac

The FluteSonic Chamber Orchestra with flutist David Shostac performs works by Vivaldi, Telemann, Debussy, Rodrigo, Vaughan Williams, and Bizet.Founded in 2014 by Conductor and Music Director Gordon Halligan and Principal Soloist David Shostac, FluteSonic Chamber Orchestra was inspired by the accomplishments of the finest European ensembles. Initially drawing on the talent of the finest Los Angeles area musicians, FluteSonic along the way added some unusual instruments – flutes of all sizes, contrabass clarinet, string bass, and keyboards. The Orchestra prides itself on inspirational performances, precision ensemble, and an extremely varied repertoire, ranging from the Baroque through Classical, Romantic, and Impressionist to the 20th  and 21st centuries, and venturing into the jazz field as well.

Appointed principal flute of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra in 1975, David Shostac has performed as a solo and orchestral player at the Hollywood Bowl and has taken part in the Ojai, Mostly Mozart, Aspen, and Oregon Bach festivals. He has also appeared with the American Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has worked with such prominent conductors as Eugene Ormandy, Zubin Mehta, Leopold Stokowski, Seiji Ozawa, Karl Richter, Helmuth Rilling, and Christopher Hogwood. “Extraordinary, dazzling, world class” and “a musician of the highest order” are words critics have used to describe his artistry. An alumnus of the Juilliard School and Tanglewood and the recipient of two Rockefeller performance grants, Shostac has also served as principal flute of the St. Louis, Milwaukee, and New Orleans symphony orchestras.
