April 26: 50th Anniversary Celebration with LA Symphonic Winds
Sundays Live celebrates LACMA’s 50th anniversary and along with 25 years of Sundays Lives at LACMA with a performance by the Los Angeles Symphonic Winds, performing George Frederic Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, recreating the music featured in LACMA’s opening ceremonies.
Since their founding in 1983, the 100-piece Los Angeles Symphonic Winds has become one of the most highly recognized and critically acclaimed concert bands in the United States, with international performances in Austria, Italy, Canada, and France. Plans are currently underway for a performance at New York’s Carnegie Hall. The ensemble is directed by Stephen Piazza, who has shared the concert stage with some of the music world’s greatest artists such as Plácido Domingo, Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Gustavo Dudamel.
