May 25: Colburn Youth Orchestra with Maxim Eshkenazy

Conductor Maxim Eshkenazy, who the Los Angeles Times has hailed as “charismatic and exciting,” leads the Colburn Youth Orchestra in a performance at LACMA. The program includes Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 in F minor, and selections by Tchaikovsky and Dvorak.

The 70-member Colburn Youth Orchestra consists of woodwinds, pairs of horns and trumpets, percussion, and strings. Comprised of students age 13 and above, the orchestra performs classic symphonic literature as well as newly commissioned works.

Conductor Maxim Eshkenazy was recently promoted to associate conductor of the Pacific Symphony, and also holds posts as music director of the Bakersfield Youth Orchestra and at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, where he leads both the Chamber and Youth Orchestras. He regularly guest conducts Bulgaria’s major orchestras, including the Sofia Philharmonic. Committed to the promotion of new music, Eshkenazy frequently programs and performs the music of contemporary composers.
