April 6: Afro-American Chamber Music Society Orchestra

Sundays Live presents the nationally acclaimed Afro-American Chamber Music Society Orchestra (AACMSO) with conductor Janise White. Praised by the Los Angeles Times as an orchestra that plays “with joy,” AACMSO has revived and premiered works by over 200 composers and performed for radio and television programs including KFAC’s Sundays at Six and KPFK’s Music in Black. Founded in 1987, AACMSO has appeared with Richard Smallwood, Alex Haley, and Garrett Morris, and with conductors Michael Morgan, Kermit Moore, and Denis de Cocteau.

The program includes works by African, Afro-Brazilian, Caribbean, and African American composers such as Antônio Carlos Gomes, Fela Sowande, Stephen James Taylor, Chevalier de St. Georges, James Lee III, and José Maurício Nunes Garcia.

This concert is supported by a generous grant from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
